Remote Learning Plan
- Each morning students will have a Morning Message on Google Classroom at 7:45 am. Students should respond with 4 to 5 sentences. The message does not have to be complete at 7:45 am.
- Students will meet for LA/Social Studies instruction in Google Meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 5th grade will meet from 9:30 to 10:30 am and 4th grade from 10:30 to 11:30 am. All assigned work will be due on Fridays.
- On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I will be on Google Meets/Chats from 9:30 to 11:30 am to assist and help with all LA/Social Studies assignments.
- Students will be sent each week videos with Word Work lessons. Students will be required to complete WW sorts. All sorts should be completed and turned in by that Friday through Google Classroom. A picture of the sort can be uploaded and sent through Google Classroom.
- Students will be required to do 20 to 30 minutes of independent reading everyday. The independent reading log will be sent to all students through Google Classroom and needs to be filled in daily. The log can be saved to students' Google Drives.
- I will have office hours from 8 to 9 am and 1-2 pm daily. My office hours are for students and parents to either email or chat virtually with me.

Election of 1860 Simulation- Read each presidential speech and record each presidents’ thoughts on the issues on slavery on in the south, slavery in the territories, westward expansions, and a transcontinental railroad.
Watching the video at www.youtube.com/watch?=OUS9mM8Xbbw is optional. Review the Election Map of 1860 and election results worksheet. Complete the questions to the election result worksheet.
Read the Civil War Times and review the Union and Confederacy Information sheets. On the worksheet draw a line to the Union’s attributes and the Confederacy’s attributes. Then, write about which side was better prepared. Be sure to support your claim.
Why Did They Fight? Read the primary source quotes from people who fought in the Civil War. List the reasons why people fought in the Civil War. In your opinion, rank the reasons from best to worst. Then answer the questions on the worksheet.
